Number 15. Ipswich Public Library. 23 North Main Street. The library itself is an ever present reminder of the generosity of the Heard family. John's son, Augustine, gave funds for the creation of a library. He selected the site, bought the land, supervised the plans, gave an endowment, and selected the first 300 books. He died in 1868 before the library opened. One of the special offerings of the Library is the Ipswich Room which contains many materials for those who are researching their family history.
The Library is the building on the right. The photo is from about 1900. The white building on the left is the Methodist church. The center building was, at the time, a post office. It later became the Odd Fellows Hall as well as Savory's Pharmacy.
