The Whipple House, c. 1650, is a fine example of the important features that are characteristic of a First Period House, the central frame, large fireplaces, summer beams, wide board floors, and gun-stock posts. It is a National Historic Landmark. It was moved from its original site on the other side of the river. It is a fine example of the homes of our early settlers and provides a clear picture of how they lived. ![]() These two photos of the Whipple House are from Ipswich in the Massachusetts Bay Colony by Thomas Franklin Waters ©1905. They show the Whipple House on its original location about 1900. The appearance is different. The House was modified after being moved. See story, with some photos, of the Whipple House being moved in 1927. Be forewarned that this will take some time to download as it is rather large.
